In 2006, Matt faced another layoff while working as a contractor at Red River Army Depot. Tired of the instability, he made a life-changing decision to learn a trade that could provide security for his family’s future. That fall, Matt enrolled in the HVAC program at Texarkana College and graduated with the technical foundation that would shape his career. Over the next five years, he honed his craft working for local companies, first mastering refrigeration and food equipment repair, then focusing exclusively on heating and air conditioning. These experiences built the troubleshooting skills and installation expertise that define our service today.
After earning his HVAC licenses in both Texas and Arkansas, Matt explored another calling. Inspired by a neighbor who served as a local firefighter, he attended the Fire/EMT program at Sulphur Springs in 2012 and completed both certifications. When securing firefighting positions proved difficult, Matt channeled his determination into entrepreneurship, founding Lone Star Heating and Air in spring 2013. Three months later, the City of Atlanta, TX, offered him a firefighter position. For two years, Matt balanced both careers, working full-time in HVAC while serving his community as a firefighter. Eventually, he faced a choice between growing his business and continuing in public service. Choosing to focus on his HVAC company and spend more time with his family, Matt left firefighting behind without regret, knowing he’d made the right decision.
